You are planning to work hard and achieve the best education you can for your future. Many opportunities will be open to you because you are going to secure a degree in an important field. You will join the ranks of many professionals with your in-depth knowledge. So, I congratulate you on choosing college and investing in your future.
However, college is not what you may think!
Most college students believe a degree is the answer to their dreams---IT”S NOT! While a college degree does make it easier to get into the career field you desire; a college degree is not the final solution to you career destiny. Personally, I loved my college experience. I learned a lot and developed into the professional I always desired to be.
What I did have, which many do not, is the understanding of what college is.
You have to understand: graduating college is only one part of the puzzle. There are many other activities you need to participate in to create the ‘ultimate’ resume. These activities include:
· Participating in volunteer activities on and off campus
· Leading or taking leadership positions in various organizations
· Becoming an active voice in your field by submitting articles to magazines and newspapers
· Starting a ‘weekend’ business where you work the same position as your career field to get experience and exposure.
By experiencing the ideals above, your resume will reflect a well-rounded person who can do the job effectively and understands the bigger picture. Employers love to see this quality. When it’s time to apply for jobs; you will find it much easier now that you have more than just a degree. Combining the education with the skills above is that final answer that some college students get in college---those that know!
The motive of this is simple: do more than just get a degree. Gain wisdom, insight, and truth in understanding. If you do this, the job will be yours to have!
